Good Coaching Case Studies

Ron_NocettiEach month, Positive Coaching Alliance and the national organizations (listed below) that serve as National Conversation co-conveners will distribute "Good Coaching Case Studies" designed to start conversation among youth and high school sports parents, coaches and leaders/administrators.

We want to hear your voice! Read this month's Case Study -- When a Star Burns Too Bright -- followed by instructions on how you can join the Conversation.

When a Star Burns Too Bright

Your child's coach, whom you respect, approaches you for a private conversation after practice. Coach explains that your child, although a star player, is harming the team by overly influencing the game and calling for the ball too much. You think your child's team plays well together, wins, and does not seem to mind the leadership your child exerts.

  • What do you say to the coach?
  • How, if at all, do you speak about this with your child?
  • What is an ideal outcome of these conversations?

Share your answers by clicking here for the Ask PCA Your Youth Sports Questions blog. You also can click here for a PDF version of the Case Study to print out and discuss at youth sports events or meetings.
