Chris Wiegand

Olympic Basketball Gold Medalist Jennifer Azzi presents
a Double-Goal Coach Award to Chris Wiegand.

Chris Wiegand in 2002 created Colorado’s Front Range Paddle Association, where he serves 12-to-18-year-olds by coaching their bodies, minds and spirits in canoeing and kayaking.

“When not on the river training physically,” wrote Christina Hinton, a parent of one of Chris’ athletes, “Chris is constantly making his athletes look deep inside themselves to see how they can be a better athlete, friend and individual.”

Part of that process is a daily training log, where children are encouraged to address their thoughts and emotions on all aspects of their lives. He uses insights from the logs to open dialogue with his athletes on any topic that seems to weigh on them, whether or not it pertains specifically to their athletic performance.
