Making the 2008 National Youth Sports Awards sponsored by Deloitte a rousing success were Deloitte Vice Chairman and Regional Managing Partner Mark Edmunds (l.) and NFL Hall of Fame and San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl Champion quarterback Steve Young.
PCA thanks Deloitte for its support and Steve Young for his moving description of how the late Bill Walsh, a PCA National Advisory Board Member, helped him develop into a Super Bowl-champion quarterback.
Others who contributed so much to this memorable event, April 12 at Stanford University's Maples Pavilion:
- Olympic Basketball Gold Medalist and NCAA Champion and Naismith Award Winner Jennifer Azzi, who introduced the Double-Goal Coach®Award winners at the ceremony and led a panel discussion among them earlier in the day
- Award-winning sportswriter and novelist Robert Lipsyte, who served as Master of Ceremonies and introduced the Honoring the Game Award winners
- Coaches Mike Bellotti (University of Oregon football) and Paul Hackett (former head football coach at USC and Pittsburgh University), who introduced their mentor, former UC Davis Football Coach Jim Sochor, as the winner of the Ronald L. Jensen Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Most of all we thank these award winners for their inspirational presence at the ceremony and panel discussions and their tremendous service to youth athletes:
