Brad Ausmus

New York Yankees Bench Coach

National Advisory Board

The Angels hired Brad Ausmus as a special assistant to the GM in November 2017, which eventually led to his hire as manager after the 2018 season. A former big league catcher, Ausmus will assist with scouting and evaluations of the Angels system, amateurs, and players in other organizations.

Ausmus was the Manager for the Detroit Tigers until 2017. Before that, he was a special assistant for the San Diego Padres, and had an 18-year career as a catcher in Major League Baseball. Drafted by the New York Yankees in 1987, Ausmus attended Dartmouth College and earned a degree in government while playing in the Yankees’ minor-league system. He led the major leagues in several categories during his career with the Padres, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Noted for his defensive play and game management, Ausmus was named an All Star in 1999, and was a three-time Gold Glove winner.  In 2004, Ausmus was inducted in to the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
