City of Mesa Spotlight

11.13.2015

Positive Coaching Alliance-Phoenix continues its “partner spotlight” series this month with the City of Mesa Recreation Department, a PCA partner since 2013, that recently trained nearly 75 coaches at the department's 11th PCA workshop.

Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department is committed to providing sustainable facilities and opportunities to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of our community. The department provides diverse and wide-reaching programs serving all ages and abilities.

The city’s partnership with PCA came as a result of feedback from parents and volunteer coaches who felt the city would benefit from PCA's Double-Goal Coach® and Second-Goal Parent® workshops. The impact from the workshops has been apparent within the youth sports programs, said Recreation Programmer Lacy Bienkowski. “We have seen a tremendous culture change in our youth sports programs since we incorporated PCA into our training and program philosophy. The positivity and sportsmanship coming from our parents, coaches, players and staff is fantastic. We can see a difference in the players who are coached using PCA's methods vs. those who are not. Our athletes are living proof that PCA's philosophy and teaching methods are successful and important.”

Positive Coaching Alliance thanks the City of Mesa Recreation Department and wishes their coaches, athletes and parents the best as they continue to grow in their athletic environment.
