PCA National Advisory Board Member Steve Young once again lived up to his Hall of Fame status, wowing the crowd with his keynote speech at PCA-Sacramento’s Jeans & Jerseys Youth Sports Awards, Aug. 30 at the Crest Theatre.
Explaining the importance of the platform of youth sports done right in children’s lives, Young said:
Every individual deserves a platform to find out how good they can possibly be. A great platform allows you to find out how good you can be. Look at my situation as a quest to see how good I can be. The organization and people around me allow me to find out how good I can be. (Think of) the impact of someone in your life who can take you out of a situation and allow you to fly above it…take a kid who is under pressure and give them perspective and ability to see things from another angle.

Reflecting on an event that raised more than $96,000 to support PCA-Sacramento developing Better Athletes, Better People, Chapter Executive Director Zach Streight said, “Steve Young and Phil Oates both did a great job of emphasizing the importance of our cause, how we are all coaches in some way or another, and why coaching character is more important than coaching X's and O's. I give great thanks to PCA-Sacramento Board Chair John Stone and all our sponsors, especially Kevin Nagle and Jaguar Ventures as our Platinum Sponsor, and MassMutual, the Sacramento Kings and Fulcrum Property as our Gold Sponsors.”
