Co-Founder and Lead Partner, Social Venture Partners Youth
Michael Leland started his company, Mortgage Trust, Inc., in 2000 with one employee and a big vision.
Mortgage Trust now employs over 45 people who are helping fulfill that vision and their lofty goals. Unlike 70+% of their competitors, Mortgage Trust survived the mortgage meltdown of the late 2000s. They’ve been voted one of ‘Oregon’s 100 Best Companies to Work For’ by Oregon Business Magazine in eight of the past nine years.
Michael is the Co-Founder and Lead Partner of Social Venture Partners Youth (SVPY) in Portland. This highly-interactive group teaches local kids about philanthropy: fund-raising, social impact, volunteering, etc.
In addition to coaching his own kids over the years, Michael has been an assistant high school girls basketball coach the past four seasons. He spent one season each at Catlin Gabel and David Douglas, before moving to his current post at Cleveland High School.
Michael graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA in Accounting. He’s married to Princeton University’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Century, Sandi Bittler. Michael and Sandi live in Portland with their three athletic kids – Emma, Maxwell and Jackson.
