Fiesta Bowl Charities Continues Support For PCA-Arizona with $100,000 Grant

11.01.2018

Positive Coaching Alliance-Arizona recently received a $100,000 Spirit of the Fiesta Bowl grant from Fiesta Bowl Charities. The funds will enable PCA-Arizona to continue providing workshops for coaches, student-athletes, teachers, and parents across the State of Arizona, leaving a legacy of a better and more positive sports culture in the state as a result.

“There is no greater example of the amazing impact that Fiesta Bowl Charities has in the community than with PCA-Arizona”, said PCA Executive Director Rich Tomey. "PCA and Fiesta Bowl Charities share a common mission that focuses on enhancing the lives of Arizonans through sports and making sure sports are done right. We have a ton of work to do to ensure that coaches, teachers, parents, and athletes understand the valuable lessons that sports can teach us, both from a competitive standpoint and in life."

“The Fiesta Bowl organization takes great pride in our efforts to help improve the lives of the millions of people who live in Arizona,” said Fiesta Bowl Chairman of the Board of Directors Steve Leach. “Influencing our next generation through youth, sports and education is our mission to set up our future leaders for success in life.”

When sports are done right, kids can reap the social-emotional benefits that organized sports offer. PCA, who has an eye toward character-education through sports, is instrumental in making sure that sports teach key life lessons.

PCA will use The Spirit of the Fiesta Bowl grant funds to ensure as many Arizona high school & middle school and youth gain training to what organized sports have to offer. From September 2017-August 2018, PCA-Arizona impacted over 85,000 kids throughout the State of Arizona largely due to the support of Fiesta Bowl Charities. Fiesta Bowl Grant funds will continue to be used to underwrite PCA workshops for schools & youth sports organizations that cannot otherwise afford it.

About Positive Coaching Alliance

Founded in 1998 at Stanford University, Positive Coaching Alliance is a national 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to developing “better athletes and better people.” PCA has developed a variety of programs and resources for youth and high school athletes, coaches, sport leaders, parents, and officials. These include “live” educational workshops as well as online courses, published books, and articles. All of our programs are research-based and are delivered by PCA trainers who have deep coaching experience and are equipped with the latest research in sports and educational psychology. We also leverage alliances with nationally recognized coaches, athletes, professors, businesses and national youth sports organizations, many of whom also serve as members of PCA’s National Advisory Board. Specifically, our programs and activities are designed to develop: Double-Goal Coaches®, whose first goal is winning and whose second and more important goal is teaching life lessons through sports;

Second-Goal Parents®, who concentrate on life lessons while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing; and Triple-Impact Competitors®, who strive to impact sport on three levels, by improving themselves, their teammates, and the game overall
