Tampa— Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay – the local chapter of the national non-profit Positive Coaching Alliance that develops “Better Athletes, Better People” through youth and high school sports – has named 44 Tampa Bay-area student-athletes from the high school class of 2019 as finalists for the Triple-Impact Competitor® Scholarship Awards Presented by Sagicor Life Insurance Company.
“Our program honors student-athletes who impact sport on three levels, improving themselves, teammates and the game as a whole,” said PCA-Tampa Bay Chapter Executive Director Mark Sakalosky. “Those principles for excellence athletically and in terms of character-education reflect the values and techniques taught in our workshops and other resources reaching student-athletes throughout the Tampa Bay region. All the finalists can take pride in the applications they submitted and the positive references submitted on their behalf by members of their school communities.”
“Sagicor Life is pleased to recognize these student-athletes from the Tampa Bay community,” said Bart Catmull, President, Sagicor Life Insurance Company. “They each have demonstrated that they are leaders on their teams and within their high schools. As finalists for a Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Award, they are now recognized as leaders throughout all of Tampa Bay and serve as role models for student-athletes of all ages. On behalf of Sagicor Life Insurance Company, congratulations!”

Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) develops through resources for youth and high school sports coaches, parents, administrators, and student-athletes. In addition to 1,700+ free audio-video and printable tips and tools at www.PCADevZone.org, PCA has partnered with roughly 3,500 schools and youth sports organizations nationwide to deliver live group workshops, online courses and books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson that help those involved in youth and high school sports create a positive, character-building youth sports culture.
PCA-Tampa Bay launched in 2014 with financial support from the Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Triad Foundation and a Chapter Board comprised of sports, business and civic leaders from throughout the Tampa Bay community. The local chapter makes a positive impact on student-athletes through strong relationships with the largest public school systems in the Tampa Bay region.
PCA resources, which have reached more than 8.6 million youth, strive to transform high school and youth sports into a Development Zone® culture, where the goal is to develop so the following become the prevailing models in youth and high school sports:
PCA gains support from a National Advisory Board, including National Spokesperson and 11-time NBA Champion Coach Phil Jackson, and many other top coaches, athletes, organization leaders and academics who share PCA’s mission.
